Education Program

Our educational program is individualized to meet each learners individual needs. By using a variety of published curriculum or our own developed educational programs every student is guarenteed to succeed!  Utilizing the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks as a guide to target educational skills, Crossroads teaches each student the skills they need to reach their full potential.  Skills are taught in the classroom then generalized throughout the school and community environments.

Speech Therapy

The goal of speech therapy is provide students with the tools to effectively communicate across all environments.  Crossroads will teach students communication skills through spoken language, picture communication, augmentative devices, sign language and gestures.

Physical Therapy

The goal of Physical Therapy is to help children build gross motor skills, muscle strength and coordination skills. Skills such as walking, running, skipping, kicking, climbing stairs, throwing and catching. These skills are not only important for physical development, but also for social engagement in sports, recess and general play. Physical therapists may pull children out to work with them one-on-one, or in adaptive physical education classes.

Occupational Therapy

The goal of Occupational Therapy is to maintain, improve, or introduce skills that allow an individual to participate as appropriately and independently as possible in meaningful life activities. Fine motor skills, play skills, self help skills, and socialization are all targeted areas addressed by Crossroads occupational therapy staff. Through occupational therapy methods, a person with autism can be aided both at home and within the school setting. Teaching activities such as dressing, feeding, toilet training, grooming, social skills, fine motor and visual skills will assist in a student's overall coordination. Occupational therapy is provided in a direct service model.

Adaptive Physical Education (APE)

Adapted Physical Education classes are taught by a Physical Therapist. The classes include sports that ensure appropriate, safe, and therapeutic aid for each individual student. For example, sports like floor hockey and whiffle ball are adapted to be inclusive of all the children regardless of their ability level. Crossroads students participate in aquatic activities as well as the Special Olympics.

Vocational Training

The goal of the Vocational Training program is to cultivate individual student's job training skills so they can successfully prepare for a job in the community when appropriate.
