What is Applied Behavior Analysis?
All instruction and programming are based on the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), the scientifically validated approach to understanding behavior and how it is affected by the environment. Through decades of research, the field of behavior analysis has developed many techniques for understanding how to increase useful skills and reduce responses that may cause harm or interfere with learning. Skill acquisition and reduction of challenging behavior have the potential to bring about meaningful and positive change for people with autism.
Crossroads employs Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) who are trained to develop individualized plans using ABA protocols. To understand behavior, extensive data is collected by the BCBA and other team members. The individual’s team uses the data to determine what is working in the treatment plan and then assess which intervention works best for the individual.
