Crossroads Continuum School

Our school is a private, non-profit day school approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). We serve students ages 3-22 in a bright school environment. Our school year is 226 days.

Our students come from a variety of surrounding communities. They range in learning profiles from those working on introductory level skills and using augmentative communication strategies to many that access close to grade-level academics.

Because every student is different, our programs are individualized to meet each student’s needs. All programming is based on principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the scientifically based intervention recommended by the U.S. Surgeon General to effectively and most safely produce meaningful progress in students with autism. Systematic application of the principles of behavior is utilized to ensure teaching opportunities for skill deficits and behavior excesses.

We offer a wide-range of program services including:

  • One-to-one and small group instruction

  • Comprehensive reading instruction and curricula

  • Academics across all Massachusetts Curriculum Framework areas

  • Comprehensive vocational programming, including in-house vocational lab and programming

  • Supported work opportunities in the community

  • Comprehensive Social Skills Curriculum accessible to students of all earning profiles

  • Programming designed to teach group working skills and increase independence

Parent Perspectives on Transitioning to Crossroads Continuum School

Enrolling in Crossroads Continuum Day School

Crossroads Continuum Day School specializes in serving children and young adults between the ages of 3 and 22 with autism spectrum disorders and related diagnoses. Interested parents, guardians, and school districts may request an informational tour of our facilities that includes a description of Crossroads Continuum’s philosophy, treatment approach and educational services. The actual admissions process consists of three steps:

  • Our Day School accepts applications for admission when accompanied by a referral packet from a school district. Referral packets are reviewed promptly to determine if our program is appropriate for the student’s needs

  • After reviewing the Referral Packet, an appointment is made for an intake screening if it’s determined that our services may be able to help the student achieve the goals and objectives in his/her IEP. During the intake, the child’s repertoire is evaluated to assess skills and competencies. The Admissions Committee then determines if an opening exists in a classroom that matches the applicant’s age and functioning level. Intake screenings are scheduled for one hour and take place at the Day School while parents meet with a member of the Admissions Department.

  • After reviewing all the information collected during the initial referral and intake screening, the Admissions Committee makes a determination regarding acceptance. Student admission is based on available placement into the child’s most appropriate peer grouping within the school. If our services are well matched to the student’s needs, but an opening is not available, the student’s application will be placed in our referral file pending an appropriate opening. The referral file allows us to consider all students who have been approved for admission. When we have a vacancy, we consider the needs of our students we currently have and the needs of the referred children.

2021 DESE Report

Crossroads Continuum’s Day School is pleased to announce we received a perfect Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) program review. The DESE team spent time in the school in November and recently released the report (follow the link below). Congratulations to the Faculty of our Day School and thank you to parents/caregivers who gave their time to participate in surveys or interviews. This is due recognition of the quality services being provided at the school each day.

“Thank you for allowing me to come tour Crossroads. You made us feel very at ease and comfortable and I walked away feeling this was a place that would enrich and benefit my child and family. For me it envisioned the hallmark picture of what a program should look like for my daughter. We are very excited to start this new journey.” Parent - S.K.
